It’s not that we don’t firmly believe in the nutritional value and benefits of dietary supplements, it is because for consumer safety this market is thankfully subject to very tight controls.
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has regulated which health information (health claims) may be made on food supplements in the so-called Health Claim Regulation since 2006. Since then, nutrition and health claims on food supplements have only been permitted if they have been reviewed by the EFSA and finally authorised by the EU Commission. Violations can be penalised with heavy fines.
Dietary supplement manufacturers are only allowed to make statements about the effect of products and their ingredients on health within the framework of this regulation - although we know and could say much more about our products.
Please always be sure to purchase your supplements only from trusted suppliers who follow these important regulations.
